Get Ready For a Saturday Special!
It's a time to paint (or take pictures) and it is also a potluck picnic. The September meeting is a Saturday Special on Saturday, September 11th at Jacques and Elaine Plamondons home in Howard. Starting at around 10 a.m. to around 2-3 p.m., this meeting features an opportunity for plein air painting with the Sangre de Cristo mountains in their backyard or many other possible choices nearby. ARA will supply the plates, utensils, etc. and the drinks. Bring a potluck dish to share with fellow members, a lawn chair, your paints (or a camera) and come enjoy painting, lots of food, door prizes and camaraderie. Come do something a little special! Look for directions to get there on page 3.

PB&T Shows
Photographer's Showcase is currently hanging at Pueblo Bank & Trust. A new show, "Art"icana, will be hung on Friday, October 8th at 1 p.m. This show will coincide with another display at the bank and feature historic, nostalgic or Americana related works, which opens to a wide range of possibilities. Not sure what that entails? Dont worry about it and bring something you like no matter the subject matter. Lets make it a fresh, new show!

Holiday Samplers
ARA is again sponsoring a booth at both the October Holiday Sampler and the December Holiday Sampler. These events will be held at the Fairgrounds and will allow our members an opportunity to sell a wide variety of art/craft related items.

Each Holiday Sampler is FREE to all ARA members. ARA will retain 10% of all sales. Participating artists must provide an inventory of all items and all items MUST be priced (items will not be displayed without an inventory and prices). Ideal items include, but are not limited to, fine art, jewelry, beadwork, fiber art, crafts, etc. Smaller table items are recommended as there will be VERY limited hanging space. Items need not be framed, but should be protected.

There is no limit to the number of items each member may bring, however, we want to give all participants an opportunity to display their works. Depending on available space, only a sample of each artist's work may be displayed with extra items put aside to replace items as sold. Look for exact dates, times and details in the October newsletter.

Art on Loan
It's almost that time again! "Art on Loan" displays will be changed in November to prepare for the holiday and winter seasons. ARA currently hangs at First Street Café, Gobins and Monarch Broker, along with our ongoing displays at Pueblo Bank & Trust. Look for exact dates and times in the October newsletter.

Directions to Plamondon's home
Take Highway 50 east from Salida to Howard. Pass the Broken Arrow Café/Motel and look for the green Holiday Hills street sign on the right (south). It is across the highway from Jerrys Cabinets. Turn right on Holiday Hills (only way you can turn). Plamondon's home is the first house on the left. For more info, call Elaine or Jacques, 942-3807.

Quote of the Month
To any artist worthy of the name, all in nature is beautiful, because his eyes, fearlessly accepting all exterior truth, read there, as in an open book, all the inner truth.
Auguste Rodin

@
August's Artist of the Month was Carol Walker.
Carol is a busy artist with a lifelong passion to draw what she sees and to share her insights with others. Carol began early life in an orphanage, beginning to paint in the shed with mud and moving onto paper as years passed.

As a child she experienced an injury to her eye that nearly blinded her. After numerous surgeries over the years her corneal specialist tells her depth perception is something she cannot have. However, her mind dictates otherwise. She has overcome this handicap to paint depth perception in her beautiful paintings, which baffles her eye specialist. Her artwork can be seen on her website at www.ArtisticEndeavors.org.
